Venetian Blind Material. Faux Wood versus Real Wood.
There are several important factors to consider when selecting you material for your venetian blinds.
Four main factors are:-
1. Window size
2. The room itself and the likelihood of moisture caused by steam or
water vapour.
3. The direction the window is facing and the amount of heat/sun it
will receive.
4. Budget.

So let’s look at the two materials.
Wood is as it states – real wood! This comes in a variety of colours and shades and is not as dense as Faux Wood therefore is the lightest in weight of the two materials.
Due to wood being a natural material it tends to be the more expensive of the two.
Wood is good in windows that are south facing in the UK where in the summer months the temperature behind the glass can be high. Wood handles this better.
Wood is a breathable material and therefore will absorb any moisture present in the room which in turn can cause the wood to warp.
If the room is dry and the window is a larger size then wood is a very good choice because the lighter material will be easier to lift with the cords than the denser Faux Wood material.
Faux Wood is a composite PVC artificial wood material.
It is less expensive to produce but heavier and on larger windows can be slightly harder to lift up the blind with the cords, although it is possible to cover larger windows with several smaller blinds to make the blinds easier to lift.
Although heavier it is very good in moisture rich environments as it does not absorb moisture.
Faux wood also keeps the budget lower.
It looks identical to wood in colour pattern and texture of which there are many.
Both materials have distinct advantages which need to be considered.
Either can be custom made to fit inside the window recess or outside the recess should you want to use the window sill to stand ornaments or photos etc.
In each range there are options for positioning the raise/lower and slat tilt controls and also options for slat size.
The larger slats mean more light will be allowed in the room when they are positioned fully open as there are less slats than there would be if small slat sizes were selected.
